There are many ways to get involved with the Grief Center, as a group or as individuals.  With a small staff and over 100 active volunteers, it’s easy to see that the men and women who give their time and talent are the heart of the program.  Volunteers need to be over the age of 21 for work with families at the Center and at Camp Corazon.  Thank you. Volunteer Support Group Facilitators are the backbone of our program. They lead grief support groups for children, teens, or adults, either in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque or in Rio Rancho. Facilitators are trained, teamed up with more experienced facilitators, and supported by our staff. Facilitators come from all walks of life, and are not required to have any experience in support groups or counseling. As one of our volunteers wrote, “This is the most rewarding thing I do.” The time commitment is approximately 3.5 hours one evening every other week for 1 school year, after completing the initial training. Bereavement Facilitator Trainings are held every January and August. Registration is $45 for volunteers.  Please complete a registration form and return to CGC to get started. Trainings are accredited with 13 CEUs for Social Workers, Counselors and Psychologists.  There are 2 options for CEUs7.5 hours ($150.00) of core childhood bereavement information, OR 13 hours ($260.00) for the entire course which includes information specific to guiding principles at the Children’s Grief Center and is required for those who wish to facilitate the grief support groups.  If you would like to register for the training for CEUs but do not wish to volunteer, just complete and return the registration form.

The Community Alliance is a special group of volunteers who spread awareness of the Children’s Grief Center’s mission. Through social activities and events, the Community Alliance Committee partners with  community members to build new relationships and host fun fundraisers that benefit the CGC’s free programs for grieving young people and their caregivers.

Volunteer Office Support is needed to help the small but tenacious staff by placing phone calls, preparing mailings, entering data and other general office tasks, as well as special projects. Primary responsibilities depend on areas of interest and experience. Please be committed, have good communication skills, and enjoy working with others. For 20 minutes prior to the beginning of our support groups, we need a few friendly faces to volunteer as Family Greeters. Family Greeters welcome the families that are attending support groups at the Children’s Grief Center, serve pre-group snacks, and then help to clean up afterward. All the time that is required is a about one hour on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights, every-other-week throughout the school year. Marketing Committee – The most disappointing thing we hear is “Where were you when my children needed you?” Help get the word out about services, events and trainings through social media, press releases, and traditional media outlets. Development Committee – The development committee works to raise funds for the Children’s Grief Center by planning, promoting, and executing special events such as wine tastings at a board member’s home or the annual Healing Hearts Luncheon and Silent Auction.
